Many people are surprised to learn that their old house once had a name. In fact, nearly every old house built in Australia before about 1930 was 'christened' by its architect, builder or first owner.

Names served to identify houses, helped the postman to deliver mail and ensured that the butcher, baker or other tradesmen made their deliveries to the correct address.
